Privacy Policy
Kinda Sus · Last updated: October 17, 2026
Kinda Sus is a party game for iPhone, made by Tyler Zeruk ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app collects, why, who else handles it, and what you can do about it. We've tried to keep it short and plain.
The short version: you play as a guest, with no email, password or phone number. We keep the name and blob you pick, and what happens in your games, so the game can work. We don't show ads, we don't use analytics or tracking tools, and we don't sell or share your information for advertising.
1. What we collect
Information you give us
- Your display name. The name you type in (up to 24 characters). Other players in your games see it. It doesn't need to be your real name.
- Your blob. The color and eye style you pick for your avatar.
- What you do in a game. Games you host or join, the game code, the game mode and settings, when you joined, whether you're still in or sussed out, how many players you sussed, the targets and challenges dealt to you, the sus checks you send and answer, the reason you give if you say "Not sus" (up to 200 characters), and your vote if you rule on a sus check as a ghost. The game also writes a feed of what happened (for example "Priya's sussed out").
- Reports. If you report a player, we keep the reason you pick, any note you add (up to 200 characters), both players' display names, and the game code, and we email them to ourselves so we can look into it.
Information collected automatically
- A guest account ID. When you first open the app, it creates an anonymous account for you with our backend provider. This is a random ID. It isn't linked to your name, email, phone number or Apple ID.
- A push notification token. If you allow notifications, Apple gives the app a token that lets us send notifications to your phone. We store it with your guest account ID. If you don't allow notifications, we don't get one.
- Technical request data. Like most online services, our backend provider's servers process your IP address and basic request details (such as time and the app's version) when the app talks to them, to deliver the service and keep it secure. We don't use this to identify or locate you.
Information stored only on your phone
The app saves your blob choice and the game you're currently in on your phone, so it can pick up where you left off. This stays on your device.
What we don't collect
We don't collect your email, phone number, contacts, photos, location, or payment details. We don't use advertising IDs, analytics tools, crash-reporting services, or tracking of any kind, and we don't follow you across other apps or websites.
The demo game with bots runs entirely on your phone. Nothing from a demo game is sent to us.
2. How we use it
We use your information only to run the game:
- to create your guest account and keep you signed in;
- to show your name and blob to the other players in your games;
- to deal targets and challenges, handle sus checks and disputes, keep score, and end the game;
- to send you notifications about your games (for example "Sus check!" or "Game over");
- to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
We don't use your information for advertising, profiling, or selling to anyone.
3. Who can see your information
- Other players in the same game see your display name, your blob, whether you're still in, and the game's feed. While a game is running, only your hunter knows you're their target, and only you see your own target and challenge. When the game ends, every player in that game can see the full recap: who had whom as their target and every challenge. A "Not sus" reason you write can be seen by the player who sent the sus check and by whoever rules on it (the host or the ghosts). How you voted as a ghost is visible only to you.
- Reports you make are seen only by us. The player you report isn't told who reported them.
- Players you've shared a game with can see your display name and blob.
- People you haven't played with can't see anything about you.
Notifications can appear on your lock screen and may include a player's display name (for example "Sam joined" or "Jessica is the least sus"). They never say who is hunting whom.
4. Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We use three service providers to run the game, and they handle data only on our behalf:
| Provider | What they do | What they handle |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase, Inc. | Hosts our database, guest accounts, and server functions. Data is stored in the United States (AWS us-east-1). | Everything listed in section 1, except data stored only on your phone. |
| Apple Inc. (Apple Push Notification service) | Delivers notifications to your phone. | Your push token and the notification's text. |
| Resend, Inc. | Delivers player reports to our support inbox by email. | The contents of a report: both players' display names, the game code, the reason and note, and the reported player's "Not sus" reasons in that game. |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of players or others, or as part of a sale or transfer of the app (in which case this policy, or one at least as protective, would continue to apply).
5. How long we keep it
- Games (players, targets, challenges, sus checks, feed and recap) are deleted 12 months after the game ends.
- Lobbies that never start are deleted after 7 days (or 7 days after their scheduled start).
- Your guest account and profile are deleted after 12 months in which you don't open the app or play, along with anything left of your games. You can delete them sooner any time with Delete my data.
- Reports are kept until either player's account is deleted.
- Notifications we've sent (their text, and who they went to) are deleted after 30 days.
- Push tokens are deleted when Apple tells us a token is no longer valid, when the token moves to a different account on the same phone, or when your account is deleted.
- Technical request logs are kept by Supabase for a short period as part of their service.
Deleting the app removes the data stored on your phone, but doesn't delete your guest account or games from our servers. If you reinstall, you get a new guest account and can't get back into the old one.
6. Your choices and rights
- Notifications: you can turn them off any time in iPhone Settings → Notifications → Kinda Sus.
- Change your name or blob: from the Home screen.
- Delete your data: in the app, tap your name on the Home screen, then Delete my data. It deletes your guest account, profile, push tokens and game history from our servers right away, takes your name out of every game feed and recap, and wipes what's saved on your phone. If you're hosting a game, another player becomes the host. There's no undo.
- Access or a copy of your data: email us and we'll send it.
Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK, or California), you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. We don't sell or "share" personal information as California law defines it, and we don't use it for targeted advertising. We won't treat you differently for using any of these rights.
7. Children
Kinda Sus is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has used the app, contact us and we'll delete their data.
8. Security
Your data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). On the server, row-level security rules limit each player to seeing only what the game allows them to see, and every game action is checked on the server. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects it, as the law requires.
9. International users
We're based in the United States, and so are our servers. If you use Kinda Sus from outside the US, your information is transferred to and stored in the US.
10. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top and post the new version at this address. If a change matters (for example, a new kind of data or a new provider), we'll also tell you in the app before it takes effect.
Planned changes we already know about: paid challenge packs (purchases through Apple; we'd store a record that you own a pack, but never your payment details) and optional Sign in with Apple. We'll update this policy before either ships.
